Xavier University - Ateneo de Cagayan's Graduate School conducted a forum on the role of the barangay government in the urbanization of Metro Cagayan de Oro on September 15 at the SBM-AVR1 of the main campus.

Cagayan de Oro City urban barangay officials, punong barangays (chairpersons), and chairpersons of the barangay committee on the environment served as forum participants.

Registered environmental planner and public administration scholar Wilson Hormeguera served as the resource person who shared on the lessons from Metro Manila as an urban environment.

SHARING OF IDEAS. One of the facilitators, Atty Jonathan Oche, shared his insights and synthesis during a session in the governance forum.  

The participants were divided into seven thematic areas (poverty alleviation, industry, water, energy, transportation, sewage and sanitation, and finance) for a small-group discussion with the scholars of public administration as facilitators. 

At the end of the forum, the participants shared their existing practices which address the thematic issues and proposed ordinances and resolutions relative to the themes especially on strengthening implementation of the Republic Act 9003 or the Ecological Solid Waste Management Act of 2000. ∎
