Cinemagis 11 reveals nominations on opening night

The 11th Cinemagis Northern Mindanao Digital Short Film Festival opened on Wednesday evening (January 23) at the XU Little Theater by unveiling the nominees among this year's official entries.

With a total of 21 entries, the festival has achieved a record-breaking roster since it began more than a decade ago. With diversity as its helm, Cinemagis continues to cultivate the vibrant filmmaking community in Northern Mindanao and rippling the culture to nearby regions. (Read: List of Entries)

As organized by the Xavier Center for Culture and the Arts (XCCA), and supported and funded by National Commission for Culture and the Arts (NCCA) and the Film Development Council of the Philippines (FDCP), this year's Cinemagis sought to invite renowned filmmakers and artists of varying genres to provide lectures and judge the short films. XCCA director Hobart Savior and Christian Alan Toring, director of "Para sa Paboritong Anak ni Papa," presented the nominees.

“We would like to encourage our filmmakers to really celebrate Northern Mindanao’s filmmaking community,” Savior said in his speech dedicated to the filmmakers.

“Let’s begin by really growing the community, creating the need, and making our art available to others so that we will be able to complement effectively with one another,” he added.

Slated to take place from January 23 to 26, this year’s festival will involve film screening at the XU Little Theater and SM Cinema 1 from 1PM to 6PM and lectures about the craft in filmmaking on Friday and Saturday morning at the XU Little Theater.∎
