The Graduate School of Xavier University - Ateneo de Cagayan, alongside the Graduate School Student Council (GSSC), will conduct a seminar-workshop that will help graduate students produce quality research works, theses, dissertations, and related outputs.

Slated on Saturday (August 3, 2019) from 8AM to 12NN at XU's AVR 1, the workshop will emphasize on proper iterations and citations for literature reviews through the use of the Mendeley Reference Management and Research Network software.

As one of the essential components of full research work, the literature review (also referred to as the review of related literature, depending on the research’s style and format) covers previously written works. These works serve as bases to support, complement, and relate to the research.

But most often, graduate students encounter problems when writing an effective literature review. These include using the right terminologies and style in referencing and citing previously published works. Although there is no exclusive format to research works in any graduate school program, the upcoming workshop aims to guide students through this undertaking.

Graduate School dean Dr Catherine Roween C Almaden will lead the workshop, introducing Mendeley as a research tool to strengthen the students’ literature review and reference management. Graduate school participants, however, will only be limited to 60.

Despite the limited number that can be accommodated, the Graduate School and GSSC are looking forward to hosting more workshops, seminars, lectures, and related programs to help graduate students with their academic pursuits.

Interested graduate school students can register through the link sent by the Graduate School Department to their emails last week. The registration fee covers lunch and certificates for the participants. As of Saturday (July 27, 2019), registration has reached its limit.

But GSSC has made plans for a second seminar-workshop covering the same topic soon.∎
