Dr Catherine Roween Almaden, dean of the Graduate School at Xavier Ateneo, won Best Paper at the 5th Asia Future Conference (AFC5) held from January 8 to 13 at the Acacia Hotel in Alabang, Muntinlupa City and at the University of the Philippines Los Baños (UPLB).
The award for her winning paper, titled "Enablers and Constraints of Localized Climate Financing: The Case of a Second-tier City in the Philippines," was handed on the Best Paper and Best Presentation awards on a ceremony during the event's closing party on January 11 at UPLB.
Dr Almaden also chaired a panel session on "Shared Growth on Agriculture and Industrial Development" during the forum.
Other participants of the conference were from the University of Indonesia (Indonesia), University of Kitakyushu (Japan), AECOM (Malayisia), Population Services International (Vietnam), Sookmyung Women's University (Korea), National Yunlin University of Science and Technology (Taiwan), Department of Agrarian Reform (Philippines), directorate general of taxes of the Republic of Indonesia/Ritsumeikan Asia Pacific University Alumni (Indonesia), Foundation for Professional Training Inc (Philippines), Musashi University (Japan), UPLB (Philippines), Oita University (Japan), an independent researcher from the UK, Bulacan State University (Philippines), Northern Iloilo Polytechnic State College (Philippines), and Indonesian Institutes of Sciences (Indonesia).
For more than fifteen years, the AFC has facilitated discussions regarding transnational problems caused by environmental issues and socioeconomic globalization, promoting cooperation across nations and disciplines to develop and improve multifaceted evaluative and analytical strategies to confront these problems.∎
