COVID ALGCIT 05

The Andrew L Gotianun Center for Integrated Technologies (ALGCIT) was set to bless and inaugurate its classroom building and dormitory last March 23. It was also set to celebrate the graduation of its first batch. However, these events have been postponed due to the coronavirus disease (COVID-19) pandemic.

Through the endowment of the Gotianun Family Foundation, the ALGCIT Senior High School was built to provide full academic and residential scholarships to deserving yet financially-disadvantaged youth. It aims to champion technical-vocational education in the Philippines. 

Graduates of the ALGCIT senior high school program are expected to be world-ready, with international standard competencies, and spiritual and social commitment the Ateneo way.

Postponement of the first ALGCIT graduation

The graduation of the first batch of ALGCIT scholars is postponed. There are 148 graduating ALGCIT students for SY 2019-2020. Of which, two are with honors. 

The event was initially planned to be held at the Xavier Ateneo Sports Complex beside the XU Grade School campus. The anticipated guest speaker is Lourdes Josephine Gotianun-Yap, president and CEO of the Filinvest Development Corporation (FDC) and only daughter of Andrew Gotianun. 

FDC director Juan Eugenio L Roxas and two of Andrew Sr's sons, namely FDC director Michael Edward T Gotianun and FDC Chairman of the Board of Directors Jonathan T Gotianun, were also expected to attend the event.

Postponement of the campus blessing and inauguration

The edifices to be blessed are the Filinvest Hall and Mercedes Hall. Filinvest Hall serves as the dormitory of the student-residents while Mercedes Hall functions as the administrative and classroom building. Both structures are respectively named after Andrew Sr’s lifelong legacy and his wife, Mercedes. 

Jonathan Jr and Josephine were also anticipated to attend the campus blessing and inauguration which was arranged to be presided over by Xavier Ateneo president Fr Roberto ‘Bobby’ Yap SJ.
