For actualizing Cura Personalis or the care and concern for each individual person, Xavier University-Ateneo de Cagayan was hailed one of the awardees of this year’s Education Summit, dubbed as “Kurambos: 2021 CDO Education Summit”. As the title suggests, the Summit was banked on the concept of Kurambos—a Cebuano-Visayan term that means “pooling of resources and people for a common goal”.

Last July 24, 2021, the Local School Board of the City of Cagayan de Oro conducted Kurambos via Zoom and Facebook Live and brought together various stakeholders, including students, parents, teachers, barangay officials, and civic partners. As the Summit reported the education status of the City during this new normal, it also acknowledged the contribution of the City’s education partners and stakeholders through their good practices, interventions and programs in the advancement of the quality, accessibility, and resiliency of education in the city.

Cited for the University’s Ignatian values integration not just in the curriculum but in the social involvement in the community, putting into practice Cura Personalis and manifested more in its partnership, its Kurambos, with the City Government, Xavier Ateneo was one of the 9 awardees recognized by the Local School Board.

University President Fr Mars P Tan, SJ, received the Plaque of Appreciation that recognized and celebrated Xavier Ateneo’s education initiatives and milestones amidst these challenging times.

Xavier Ateneo since 2013, through the Regional Center of Expertise-Education for Sustainable Development in Northern Mindanao and the Arrupe Educational Center, has been actively supporting the education programs of the city. Also considered as one of the University’s notable is the XU Night School Program—an extension program of the School of Education's Arrupe Educational Center (AEC) in partnership with the CDO City Social Welfare Department and the Department of Education Division of Cagayan de Oro commissioned to provide significant knowledge for out-of-school youth and street children in Cagayan de Oro City.

Despite the pandemic, Xavier Ateneo along with the other member-schools of the Local School Board, the city and its partners and stakeholders, remain committed to come up with strategies that will make the quality of education in the City a world-class and resilient one by pooling together as one Kurambos.
