Mis- and disinformation are endemic in the online world. Now, these pose an even bigger threat as people shift online, where givers and seekers of valuable knowledge can fall victim to purveyors of “fake news”. Still, several initiatives aim to shed light on the path towards truth. Last February, the Department of Academic Empowerment and Support of the United Arts and Sciences Student Council (UNITASS) launched Tiger Talks, a project geared towards providing lectures and initiating healthy discussions, covering a wide range of topics: Chemistry, Mathematics, Religion, Relationships, Pandemic-related Information, and everything else under the sun.

The lecture-based initiative provided an avenue for learning for 114 participants, becoming a “breath of fresh air” for people at a time when clear and reliable information is most elusive. The participants were also given the chance to obtain information related to their courses, an opportunity especially beneficial to freshmen, sophomores, and to those who are yet to experience learning in the face-to-face setting. The project magnified the importance of starting the right conversations and finding the right platform for them. With plans to go even bigger in the future, Tiger Talks represents the Atenean’s unending quest to share and search for knowledge.
