Philippine Institute of Civil Engineers - Xavier University Student Chapter (PICE - XUSC)

Civil engineering requires technical knowledge and skill across a wide range of different specializations and usually, higher education students emerge in the industry by attending expensive physical national conferences to gather insights. In the time of the COVID-19 pandemic, there is little chance for any large-group gatherings but such an instance is not a hindrance for our civil engineering student’s career preparations. Through the SPICE Webinar Series initiative of the Philippine Institute of Civil Engineers - Xavier University Student Chapter (PICE - XUSC), civil engineering students across all year levels were allowed to directly learn from reputable engineering speakers for free in a four-episode webinar series.

The prime aim of the project was to keep up with current trends and upskill the Civil Engineering students with technical expertise and practical skills in specialized fields. They were exposed to emerging engineering trends and research-based solutions to current societal problems from the lens of the experts in their fields of specializations. The leveled discussions covered engineering developments for a better world, future trends in transportation, and sustainable solutions to flood management. More significantly, their sense of leadership was fortified with leadership motivations and necessary technicalities which were all projected at a centered life towards excellence. Grounded on PICE – XUSC’s mission and vision, the project became an avenue to forge social awareness and academic competence among the civil engineering students of the university. With better foundations of character and skill, the civil engineering students of the university are now moving closer towards breaking obstacles during the pandemic and building a better future ahead.
