United Arts and Sciences Student Council (UNITASS)

Exercise is fundamental to a holistically healthy Atenean but the long stay-at-home intervals of the COVID-19 pandemic halted most of everyone’s physical activity and fitness, which is necessary for good welfare and wellness. In active response, the leaders of the United Arts and Sciences Council (UNITASS) took on the challenge to show the importance of exercise through the ExerCas at Home project. In the spirit of sportsmanship to build an active community, they aimed at not only promoting physical wellness, but encouraged beginners to become more comfortable with themselves. They posted multiple user-friendly workout videos to motivate anyone online to start a routine or continue exercising at home and all of which are accessible by anyone across all the college council’s platforms namely Facebook, YouTube, and Instagram. That way, everyone could actively work out with their peers by seeing their fellow UNITASS leaders and students sweat off online.

To also brush off the pressure of keeping up with the models in the videos, the organizers were also conscientious enough to use ample time intervals rather than required sets and repetitions. Indeed, regardless if anyone is a starter or a professional, they can work out at their own pace within the comforts of their homes. Through this, many students felt more encouraged to join the team and wipe off their worries during the pandemic, and gauging at the number of videos, a lot of the College of Arts and Sciences Tigers surely broke a sweat. More excitingly, the organizers from UNITASS are still eyeing to hold live online exercises with actual student-athletes next year. What a healthy experience to keep track of!
