Xavier University Psychology Society (XUPS)

The Psychology students of Xavier University observed that many people felt the depth of uncertainty during the COVID-19 pandemic and the case was also evident among their fellow higher education students who hurdled their way to the second semester of the academic year. Simply put, everyone needed a break from all the hustle and bustle. Through the XU Psychology Society Scintillate, students were gathered in an online general assembly last November 2020 with an underlying aim to ignite hope among those in the dark hours of their days during the pandemic.

As joy and bonding usually bring streaks of light and ease to anyone having a hard time, the project staged a variety show with concerts and exciting activities for three consecutive days to give the students a well-deserved serotonin boost and entertainment time. To also make sure that internet connectivity is less of a problem, the organizers made sure that two Facebook live streams were accessible in a day. Since it was an assembly among psychology students, they intimately gathered in a private Facebook group to allow their participants to feel less pressured and more genuine as fellow members of the program. The freshmen students particularly felt the heartwarming welcome, as an avenue to also mingle with their upper-class seniors where shared camaraderie was indeed sparked. All in all, the XUPS Scintillate was able to light torches of hope among their fellow psychology students.
