Xavier University Psychology Society (XUPS)

A time to pat each other’s back, share sentiments and give their fellow students their well-deserved rest after a challenging semester; this was the essence of Xavier University Psychology Society’s SIKOLOHINGA project. With a comfy wordplay of the Filipino words of psychology and breath, the project served as a breakthrough breather for the program’s participants, especially in the mental and emotional aspects. The aim was to gather the hardworking students of the psychology department in an avenue where they could celebrate as a community after a challenging first semester during the first academic year of the university’s flexible mode of learning.

The series of synchronous and asynchronous parts of the project included unique activities namely Psych-kwentuhan, Sinekolohiya, Tara! Let’s Make Kwento, and  Para Kanino: Pang-Motibasyong Edisyon. Each activity had its own niche where the students could express themselves in an exclusive freedom wall or session about academic and non-academic topics, watch psychology-related movies, and share inspirations. To also widen their reach, they included a segment called Usapang Sikolohiya where Senior High School students would be given the opportunity to ask and witness upper-class Psychology students in the leg of their four-year course studies. In spite of the series of activities, the project genuinely kept its objective to stage a memorable event for their participants through safe spaces where they could freely gather, share, listen and keep track of each other’s ups and downs in academic or curricular life.  SIKOLOHINGA became their intimate channel for shared sentiments, motivational talks, and film watching among others. All in all, the project further bound the psychology students together into one persevering family amid the uncertainties of the times.
