As part of the University’s continuous efforts and significant commitment to excellence, the Xavier University Libraries is greatly honored and humbled to receive the 2022 Outstanding Academic/Research Library Award. This was given by the Philippine Association of Academic and Research Librarians on January 27, 2023 during its 50th General Assembly, Induction of 2023 Board of Directors and Awarding Ceremonies at the Mini Auditorium, 9F, Engineering Building, Far Eastern University-Manila.

In 2005, XU Libraries was also awarded by PAARL as the Outstanding Library Program of the Year for its Academic Libraries Information Network in Mindanao (ALINET) Consortial Program.

The Philippine Association of Academic and Research Librarians, better known by its acronym, PAARL, is an association of academic and research librarians in the Philippines that upholds the profession of academic and research librarianship in the country. Its principal mission is to articulate the concerns of academic and research librarians and their institutions, and to influence information policy development affecting the future of academic and research libraries.

In recognition of outstanding contributions to academic and research librarianship and to library development in general, PAARL confers several annual awards and one of them is the Outstanding Academic/Research Library of the Year Award which is given to an academic or research library in recognition of its outstanding national contributions to academic or research community, academic librarianship and library development in the Philippines.

The following are the attributes to qualify for the award:

  1. Exemplary contribution to academic/research librarianship
  2. Outstanding leadership in national/regional library development in the areas of library management, education and training, information and documentation services, etc.
  3. Commitment to information networking and linkages
  4. Commitment to PAARL’s objectives as demonstrated by its continued support and involvement
  5. Service to the organized profession through Philippine Librarians Association Incorporated (PLAI) and/or other related professional organizations

As a recipient of the award, the XU Libraries received a trophy, a certificate and a cash prize of Ten Thousand Pesos (P10, 000).

This award is one of the milestones of the XU Libraries as a vital partner of the University's research and learning ecosystem in providing various services both onsite and online,  innovative and conducive study spaces, emerging library technologies and social media platforms and access to a variety of high quality information resources, print and electronic, enhanced by quality bibliographic control and service-oriented instructional and reference assistance that support the University’s goal of challenging students toward continuing intellectual growth and spiritual formation.

Library Buildings
The libraries of Xavier University are housed in two fully-air-conditioned buildings: the three-storey Main Library and the five-storey Library Annex. The two buildings are connected by a bridge.

This accolade is truly a recognition of the XU Libraries’ significant efforts and contributions in responding to the needs, changes, and challenges of the evolving roles of the library and in serving not only the XU community but also the local community and beyond.

Furthermore, this award is another testament to the University’s commitment in the pursuit of excellence and of aspiring to be a leading ASEAN university in 2033.
