The College of Computer Studies (CCS) of Xavier University – Ateneo de Cagayan recently held its annual Practicum Orientation on 20 July 2023, marking the beginning of an exciting journey for its students as they embark on real-world experiences in various tech companies. The event was graced by the esteemed presence of Dr Meldie Apag, the Dean of the College of Computer Studies, Cristina Amor Cajilla (one of the Practicum Coordinators), Engr Maria Ramila Jimenez (one of the Practicum Coordinators), Dr Joey Jegonia (who gave a talk about Good Manners and Right Conduct in the workplace), Gwyneth Ashley Cailing, Narrylm Tan (CCS alumni who shared their Practicum experiences) and Jhon Raymond U Macaraeg (author of this article) as well as representatives from prominent companies, including Wilshire Financial Network, Wela School Systems, Concentrix, HatchIt Solutions, Cytech International, and Innovuze Solutions, Inc. The latter presented their company profiles and invited the students to have their Practicum with them, solidifying the commitment of the college to bridge the gap between academia and the industry.

Embracing Real-World Challenges – The Practicum Orientation is a significant milestone for CCS students, as it marks the culmination of their academic journey and the beginning of their foray into the professional world. This program provides an exceptional opportunity for students to gain hands-on experience, apply their theoretical knowledge, and develop essential skills to succeed in their chosen careers.

Strengthening Industry-Academia Collaboration– The CCS Practicum program has always been a collaborative effort between the college and industry partners. The presence of representatives from Wilshire Financial Network, Wela School Systems, Concentrix, HatchIt Solutions, Cytech International, and Innovuze Solutions underscored the strong partnership that exists between these organizations and the college. The industry partners shared their expectations and requirements for the practicum period, ensuring that students are well-prepared to contribute effectively during their internship. This collaboration is not only beneficial for the students but also for the companies, as they get access to fresh talent and innovative ideas that can drive their businesses forward. 

Tailored Experiences for Diverse Specializations– One of the unique features of the CCS Practicum program is its adaptability to various specializations within the realm of computer studies.
