Call for Visiting Researchers
INSTITUTE FOR SOUTHEAST ASIAN STUDIES / PUSAN UNIVERSITY OF FOREIGN STUDIES
The Institute for Southeast Asian Studies (ISEAS), Pusan University of
Foreign Studies, Busan, Republic of Korea, was established in 1996 to
aim at developing the methodology of area studies and concentrating on
Southeast Asian Studies. The institute has been involved in various
research projects on Southeast Asia and produced outstanding results
including the publication series introducing area studies. Funded by
the research project of Humanities Korea from National Research
Foundation of Korea in 2009, the institute is commencing the research
of Southeast Asia defined as a holistic unit, an advanced education
program for the students of Southeast Asian Studies, and other
supporting activities with more than 20 full-time faculties and staffs.
The theme of HK project, the Recognition and Construction of Southeast
Asia as a Holon: Building Southeast Asian Studies on Compounding Area
Studies and Cultural Studies, focuses on building Southeast Asian
Studies regarding Southeast Asia as a unit of identity reflecting a
realistic perspective of ASEAN Community. This conception, peculiar to
the existing academic consideration, will be examined and supported
mainly by cultural studies on the whole area of Southeast Asia under
our research schemes. The research results derived from the idea will
contribute largely to establishing Southeast Asian Studies as area
studies, teaching its graduate students, and providing for its experts
and even the public.
RESEARCH AREAS FOR APPLICATION
Southeast Asian Studies in the fields of history, anthropology,
sociology, culture, and arts
ELIGIBILITY
Any researchers with a doctorate degree under the age of 50 years
DURATION
Applicants may choose one of the two terms: six-month and one year.
The term, however, may extend once if they wish.
REQUIRED CONDITIONS
Selected applicants will publish at least one paper or one article on
the journal of the institute, or a book, and attend all kinds of
academic meetings to be held by the institute.

Applicants are required to submit the following documents in PDF or
DOC format to be considered: (1) Resume including educational
backgrounds, research careers, representative publications, and
references, and (2) Research Plan in a free format.

other purpose.

SALARY & RESEARCH FUND
Monthly wage is 2,450,000 won (approximately US$2,000) including
health insurance, pension and other insurances. No allowances
(commuter, housing, etc) will be provided separately, since they are
included in the basic salary.
Excellent applicants will be provided research fund for the purpose of
enhancing their studies.
