Xavier University, represented by Fr. Jose Ramon T. Villarin, SJ, President and Asian Carmakers Corporation, the official distributor of BMW cars in the Philippines, represented by Mr. Jose Ch. Alvarez, Chairman signed a Memorandum of Agreement recently at Shangri-la Hotel, Makati City last June 17, 2010, for the donation of P72.3 million construction of two new buildings in Manresa Campus for the Center for Industrial Technology (CIT).  The new complex will be named the Jose Ch. Alvarez Technology Complex.

The buildings will be designed for the 21st century.  With a small environmental footprint, these will have state-of-the-art rainwater, wind, and solar catchment systems for efficient energy and water use.  The buildings themselves will be a teaching tool and icon for green architecture.

The CIT, under the leadership of Engr. Erwin Li, Director, is being re-engineered as a polytechnic school which will  be versatile enough to meet the technical skill shortages on demand. The Center aims to generate a new breed of highly-skilled  world-class technicians who demonstrate leadership and generous  service, in consonance with the Xavier way of forming persons of competence, conscience, and commitment.

With CIT now engaged in forming future BMW and other auto mechanics, its reach will no longer be simply local.  With BMW setting up shop here in Northern Mindanao, we are hopefully sending a strong signal to the world that Mindanao is ready for business, and that there is much wealth here to be unlocked and sustainably distributed all over.
