The Xavier University-Ateneo de Cagayan College of Agriculture reached another milestone during the first-ever Professional Food Technologist (PFT) Licensure Examination held 10-11 August 2023 with 14 out of 25 (56%) Food Technologists from XU passing the examination. Ms Mae Angela de Guzman Galopo, graduate of XU Bachelor of Science in Food Technology, placed 10th out of the 453 passers throughout the Philippines.
Fr Mars Tan SJ applauds Ms Galopo’s achievement:
"Congratulations to our lone topnotcher, Mae Angela Galopo and to our new Xavier Ateneo Food Technologists! May you successfully develop and innovate healthy food products for our people, especially for our poor communities!"
452 of 1,133 (29.55%) examinees nationwide became licensed PFTs.
"The administrators, faculty and staff of the Aggie College are very proud of the achievement of our alumni, especially since this was the first Food Technology licensure examination in the country.
Their achievement is also a fitting tribute to the vision and hard work of the men and women who established and nurtured the program through the years. The Food Technology program in Xavier University was the first of its kind in Mindanao. It was first offered in 1978 as a major field under the BS Agriculture program and then in 1985 as an undergraduate degree program.
I hope more young people will recognize the important role of food technologists in our society and join this group of illustrious and passionate men and women in contributing towards more food secure families and communities in Mindanao." - Maria Rosario Mosqueda, Dean of the College of Agriculture
