In a gathering that was nothing short of transformative, Xavier University Junior High School (XUJHS) recently concluded its Ignatian Spirituality in Education Workshop (ISEW) held at Microtel Davao from July 22-25. The workshop, themed "My Identity, Mission, and Community," was a grace-filled event that brought together the whole XUJHS Community, fostering a deeper connection with their roles and each other.
Embracing Identity with Ms Geraldine Niña Rocel Libron
The workshop commenced with a profound session on identity led by Ms Geraldine Niña Rocel Libron, affectionately known as Teacher Pop. A Program Officer of the Ignatian Spirituality and Formation Office, Teacher Pop introduced the Psycho-Spiritual Integration framework. This roadmap guided participants in understanding the self by reflecting on personal histories that shape roles and relationships. She presented the natural human quest for meaning and purpose, emphasizing the concept of "Pneuma," the spirit within us. This core of our being, she asserted, is strengthened through prayer, nurturing the spirit within each community member. Her talk was a call to introspection and spiritual growth, laying the foundation for the rest of the workshop.
Innovation and Integration with Fr Jboy Gonzales, SJ
Reuniting with the XUJHS community, Fr Jboy Gonzales, SJ, currently the Head of the Ignatian Spirituality and Formation Office, delivered a captivating talk on mission. He shared insights on databased design and the integration of Artificial Intelligence (AI) to alleviate the workload of school personnel. Fr Gonzales underscored the importance of understanding students deeply and creating tailored programs for their development. He dispelled fears surrounding AI, presenting it as a valuable tool for enhancing educational modules. His emphasis on the harmonious integration of work, prayer, and rest resonated deeply, offering a balanced approach to the educational mission.
Strengthening Community with Fr Karel San Juan, SJ
The final talk by Fr Karel San Juan, SJ, President of Ateneo de Davao University, focused on community. Drawing from Ignatian spirituality and theological insights, Fr San Juan highlighted the profound strength found in communal bonds. He introduced the 7 Cs of community: care, collaboration, critique, conversations, change, culture, and celebration. These principles, he explained, foster meaningful interactions and a supportive environment. Fr San Juan inspired the XUJHS community to engage in heartfelt conversations, even the challenging ones, to build a stronger, more resilient community.
Reflecting and Celebrating Together
The workshop culminated in a synthesis session where several members of the community shared how the spirit prompted their sharings and Ms Lea Lilibeth Emata, OIC Principal of XUJHS, shared her reflections and gratitude. She praised the formation council for organizing such a beautiful and impactful ISEW. The event's conclusion was marked by a communal exploration of Davao’s beauty, with departments enjoying visits to Samal Island and other picturesque sites, some had a benchmarking activity at various campuses in Ateneo de Davao University, reinforcing the bonds formed during the workshop.
A Community Transformed
The Ignatian Spirituality in Education Workshop was more than a series of talks; it was a journey of transformation. It inspired the XUJHS community to embrace their identities, commit to their mission, and draw strength from their communal ties. Through reflective sessions, innovative ideas, and a celebration of togetherness, the workshop infused new energy into the community. It reinforced the belief that through understanding oneself, integrating innovative practices, and nurturing community bonds, educators can create a more meaningful and impactful educational experience. The ISEW left an indelible mark, promising a future where the XUJHS community continues to grow in spirit, mission, and unity.
