The Kristohanong Katilingban sa Pagpakabana – Social Involvement Office (KKP-SIO) concluded its 25th founding anniversary with a homecoming of KKP alumni-volunteers held at the XU Peace Garden. Past and present volunteers jammed to songs that reflected their social advocacies through the years.

Fr Rene Tacastacas SJ, new SEARSOLIN director, presided the Thanksgiving Mass. Fr Rentax affirmed the mission the Lord has entrusted KKP and all Christians. He assured the volunteers of the Lord’s promise to be with those whom He has called for the mission.

Present during the culmination were KKPs past and present directors, namely: Mariano “Kokoy” Nava (1986-1994), Ermin Stan Pimentel (1995-2010, present), and Denisse Edwina “Jinkee” Gonzales (2010-2011).

Nava narrated how KKP came about in 1986.  He said that the challenges of the early years of post-People Power 1 gave birth to KKP-SIO. The name Kristohanong Katilingban sa Pagpakabana, the local translation of Christian Community for Social Awareness, is expressive of Jesuit Education, which aspires to develop in the students a sense of awareness and concern for social realities, that they, with Christ as a model, may commit to work for changes that will help build more just and humane structures.

For 25 years, KKP-SIO has been committed to upholding the call of engaging the University in the social challenges of the times.  This has been proven by the many alumni-volunteers who pursue their social involvement as their chosen vocation while serving their profession.

The KKP@25 culmination posed the challenge of how KKP alumni-volunteers can continue to concretely live out KKP’s vision and mission, and personify the University’s ideal graduate: a man or woman with and for others.
