The Xavier University (XU) Rodeo Enthusiast once again emerged as overall champions in the student category of the Rodeo Masbateño held in Masbate City on April 9- 13.

This year marked the 9th win for the team granting them three grandslam titles. Other most coveted awards, the Rodeo King and Queen, were also brought home by Carl Richard Copino, BS Animal Science, and Karen Luzette Gayla, BS Business Administration.

The Women’s Team consisted of Julie Ann Abas, Karen Luzette Gayla, Queenie Jarales, Kezia Narisma, Marianne Mae Remedio and Famela Frances Yamit. The girls won first place in Steer Lassoing and Carambola 4-women division, and 2nd place in Carambola 2 women and 4 women categories.

The Men’s Team composed of Karl Phillip Abunda, Efren Alipato Jr, Marvin Miguel Balbon, Carl Richard Copino, Jan Francis Damole, Marc Glenn Paña and Clifford Alleister Sario won 2nd place in Steer Wrestling and Steer Lassoing, and 3rd in Carambola 2 men.

Rodeo Masbateño is an annual gathering of the top cowboys and cowgirls in the country.  This year’s competitors came from Benguet State University, University of the Philippines Los Baños, Nueva Ecija, Central Bicol, Masbate, Southwestern University of Cebu, Central Mindanao University and Camiguin Polytechnic State College.
