Dr Bonn Kleiford Seranilla, a faculty member of the Industrial Engineering Department at Xavier University and the Luxembourg Centre for Logistics and Supply Chain Management at the University of Luxembourg, achieved a remarkable distinction by securing first place in two categories at the 5th Asia Pacific Conference on Industrial Engineering and Operations Management, held in Tokyo, Japan from 10-12 September 2024. He won both the Doctoral Dissertation Competition, sponsored by Airbus, and the Supply Chain and Logistics Competition.

Hosted by Hosei University and held at Waseda University the conference provided a platform for academics, researchers, and professionals from various industries to exchange ideas and discuss the latest developments in Industrial Engineering and Operations Management. This international event promoted collaboration and the advancement of key trends and practices within the field. The competition saw participation from 34 countries, including Australia, Bangladesh, Botswana, Chile, China, Colombia, Germany, India, Indonesia, Iraq, Israel, Japan, Jordan, Luxembourg, Malaysia, Mauritius, Mexico, the Netherlands, Oman, Peru, the Philippines, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Singapore, South Africa, South Korea, Taiwan, Thailand, Turkey, the United Arab Emirates, the United Kingdom, the United States, Vietnam, and Zimbabwe. More than 280 papers and abstracts were submitted, and after a rigorous peer-review process, over 200 were accepted for presentation and publication.

Dr Seranilla's entry for the Supply Chain and Logistics Competition was his paper entitled On the Extensions of Dynamic Facility Location Problems under Multi-Parameter Uncertainty, while his submission for the Doctoral Dissertation Competition was his PhD research titled Stochastic Dual Dynamic Programming Applications and its Variants.

In addition to his own success, Dr Seranilla is also the adviser of the winning paper by Industrial Engineering Students of XU IE in the Undergraduate Research Competition at the same conference, demonstrating his mentorship and contribution to the academic community.
