The 29th Philippine Society of Microbiology (PSM) Mindanao Conference took place on 21-22 November 2024, at the scenic Chali Beach Resort and Restaurant in Cagayan de Oro. Hosted by Xavier University-Ateneo de Cagayan, this prestigious event brought together microbiology professionals, scholars, and students from across Mindanao for a two-day convention.

The event was facilitated by Xavier University’s The Biophilic Society, along with key members of the organizing team: Mr Paolo Fudalan, Mr Carl Ian Hallazgo, Mr Reggie Ladera, and Dr Astrid L Sinco, who also served as the President of PSM-Mindanao for the fiscal year 2023-2024. The conference was attended by schools from all over Mindanao, showcasing the strong interest and dedication to microbiology in the region. The conference kicked off with an inspiring welcome message from Dr Astrid L Sinco, PSM-Mindanao's President, who welcomed participants and set the tone for the conference’s theme. Following this, Dr Ferma Abamo delivered the keynote speech, highlighting the evolving role of microbiologists in combating AMR and the new frontiers of research that will shape the future of the profession. The conference featured several plenary sessions from some of the most respected experts in microbiology, each offering unique insights into the current trends and innovations within the discipline, Dr Thaddeus M Carvajal, Dr Noel G Sabino, Ms Cherray Gabrielle A Macabecha, MDc, RMicro, Dr Ursela Bigol, and Dr Ronilo Jose D Flores were the plenary speakers.
