Xavier University-Ateneo de Cagayan (XU) and Laminar Aviation Inc (LAI) officially signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) to foster collaboration in academic programs, training initiatives, and other mutually beneficial projects at the Laminar Aviation Inc Pilot Training Facility and Hangar in Laguindingan, Misamis Oriental on 21 December 2024.

University President Fr Mars P Tan, SJ led the XU delegation while LAI Founder Capt Carlo G Aclan represented the aviation team in the MOU signing ceremony. XU administrators and LAI officials joined the signing namely XU VP for Higher Education Juliet Q Dalagan PhD, Dean of College and Arts Sciences and Director of Xavier Center for Lifelong Learning (XCeLL) Judy P Sendaydiego PhD, VP for Social Development Engr Dexter S Lo, LAI General Manager Phidiza Dalugdog, and Quality Manager Engr Thomuel Pron.    

This partnership aims to explore opportunities for joint academic and training activities that align with the principles of equality, reciprocity, and mutual benefit. Both institutions are dedicated to creating joint programs while respecting each other’s independence and working within their academic and financial limits.

The MOU serves as a framework for future cooperation, ensuring all activities will be negotiated, approved, and governed by separate agreements. XU and LAI aim to explore other ways to work together in the following areas: academic programs, research efforts, and other activities. 

Capt Aclan said he is looking forward to bringing aviation to Northern Mindanao through the partnership between XU and Laminar. He sees the MOU as a perfect tie-up between two organizations that are dedicated and passionate about their missions. “Laminar embodies safety quality in everything [we] do [and] XU is a top performing school in Asia and steadfast in its commitment to deliver quality education.”  He recalls that as a young child he thought aviation is beyond reach but now he brings the inspiration closer to the community. “Our doors are open for you.”  

Fr Mars also expressed excitement for the partnership with Laminar Aviation saying that XU is proud to be part of this agreement. “This is a milestone for XU because we have been preparing our programs for the Campus of the Future. I believe that as an academic institution, we are ready to have this partnership. We are happy that Laminar supports our programs, supports our mission and vision to produce graduates who have conscience, commitment, competence.” Fr Mars is hopeful that the new programs will be implemented as soon as possible.

This collaboration underscores XU’s commitment to advancing education and fostering strategic alliances with industry leaders like LAI. This partnership explores opportunities for innovation, capacity building, and growth in their respective fields.
