On 22 January 2025, Xavier University brought the community together to celebrate and honor 126 individuals who dedicated their invaluable years to the institution. The 32nd Service Awards recognized employees who have served the university for periods ranging from five to forty years, as well as those who are set to retire.

In his welcome remarks, Fr Frank Dennis B Savadera, SJ, reminded everyone of the importance of doing meaningful and great work. He emphasized that “the only way to do great work is to love what we do.”

In his President’s Address, Fr Mars P Tan, SJ, expressed heartfelt gratitude and admiration to the awardees.
“As you take the next step in your journey, know that you carry with you our appreciation and admiration” for ensuring that the university mission is carried out.  “I thank you for your unwavering service, and you will always have a special place in our hearts.”

Dr Guadalupe D Calalang from the College of Agriculture responded on behalf of the awardees. Reflecting on her 37 years at the university, she looked back from the presidency of Fr Javier to the current leadership of Fr Tan. She shared how the university administrators have been caring and nurturing, and how the institution gave her the privilege to study abroad. She also spoke about her enriching experiences with the College of Agriculture and expressed her gratitude to the colleagues she worked with throughout the years.

The Xavier University Service Awards is a testimony of the institution’s deep appreciation for the members of the XU community, recognizing their hard work and their lasting impact to society.
