Seniors from BS Biology, BS Chemistry, and BS Marine Biology programs attended the 4th Lab Coat Donning Ceremony at the Xavier University Immaculate Conception Church last 7 February 2025.
The eucharistic celebration and the blessing of the lab coats was presided by Fr Harvey Chan Mateo, SJ. The ceremony followed thereafter and was witnessed by the faculty and staff of the departments of Biology and Chemistry; the parents, guardians, and loved ones of the senior students; the Biophilic Society (the student organization of the Biology and Marine Biology programs); and ChemSoc (the student organization of the BS Chemistry program). The event was graced by Dr Juliet Q Dalagan, the Vice President for Higher Education and a Chemistry Department faculty; Dr Judy P Sendaydiego, the Dean of the College of Arts and Sciences and a Biology Department faculty.
The lab coat donning ceremony dubbed Launchpad: Spark your Scientific Breakthrough was the first instance where the three natural science undergraduate courses of the College of Arts and Sciences conducted the event together. The said ceremony is an annual event held for the fourth-year students of the three programs in preparation for the Practicum subject that is taken during the second semester.
Under the current curriculum, senior students must pass the core subjects before they can engage in the minimum 150-hour requirement of the Practicum subject.
