University held its annual event Kabuwadan 2025 on 17 May 2025 showcasing an exhibit of Bukidnon illustrated epics created by the respected exhibiting artist Mr Albert ‘Bet’ Vamenta in celebration of the National Heritage Month at the Museo de Oro, Francisco R Demetrio Gallery.
The event officially began with the singing of the Philippine National Anthem and followed by the XU Hymn. Mr Oscar A Floirendo, the OIC Curator of the Museo de Oro – XCCA gave a brief welcome address and acknowledgement of guests---members of NAGMAC, USTP students, among others. After Mr Floirendo’s brief acknowledgement of the guests, Mr Bet Vamenta, a well-renowned artist who is recognized for his illustrated epics, shared his backstory and passion for his work. In his message, Mr Vamenta emphasized the importance of "going beyond our own design," as well as having the ability to surpass the present work at everything one does.
A musical performance was then followed by the Xavier Philharmonia, captivating the audience with its emotional depth and beautiful music that lingered in the mind and soul. Dr Hobart P Savior, Director of Xavier Center for Culture and the Arts, delivered his message, recognizing the negative impacts of cultural amnesia---cultures that have been ignored and rejected due to the modernization filled with technology.
Dr Savior stressed the importance of re-popularizing these cultural heritages, reiterating the vitality of upholding indigenous leadership and to honor our indigenous sources. He then concluded his speech by stating that Kabuwadan 2025’s aim is to foster these cultural identities for the future generations for them to uphold them with honor and dignity for the rest of their lives. The event officially came to an end with a ribbon cutting with Mr Deo Anthony M Alcucdia as emcee, to mark the opening of Mr Albert Vamenta’s exhibit of illustrated Bukidnon folk epics.
