Kristyl Bern Ponferrada, Maria Georgina Batar and Valerie Joyce Wasil, 4th year Accountancy students, bagged 2nd Place in the Isla Lipana and Co Business Case Analysis Competition last October 22-25, 2013 at Skylight Convention Center, Puerto Princesa, Palawan.

The business case analysis was sponsored by the international “Big 4” accounting firm PricewaterhouseCoopers, its Philippine member firm Isla Lipana and Co. and the National Federation of Junior Philippine Institute of Accountants in celebration with the 16th National Midyear Convention. Other competitors in the said event were from the different colleges and universities with accountancy progams including schools Far Eastern University, University of Santo Tomas, University of San Carlos and University of the Philippines Visayas among others.

The contest had two (2) phases. First was the elimination round where the contestants presented a case and they were to submit a written analysis and the final round where they defended their answers in front of a panel of experts provided by the sponsor accounting firm; Xavier University ranked 2nd both in the elimination and in the final round.

Team XU-JPIA was trained by Mr. Beneff Salinas and accompanied by Mr. Abel Nicolo Yu to the event as coach and chaperon, the two being full time faculty of the School of Business and Management with ample support from Ms. Victoria Babaran, chair of the Accountancy Department and Dean Ruth Love Russell of SBM.
