The Governance and Leadership Institute tackled the task of reorienting our police officers for a day’s training on Leadership on Oct 14.  Police Chiefs and other officers from Regions IX, X, CARAGA and the Autonomous Region of Muslim Mindanao braced the fact that to be good police chiefs and officers, they must have excellent leadership skills.  In line with XU-GLI’s mission to give quality training to those who feels the need to enhance their leadership skills, Dr. Dixon Q. Yasay, together with Churchill Aguillar, facilitated this one day event.

As ordinary citizens, we look at police training as often oriented with specific skills involving the reduction and solution of crimes, with little training devoted to effective leadership.  However, a successful police force depends greatly on effective leadership thus an ethical workforce and service orientation especially for our police officers are as important as professional knowledge, skills or ability. The leadership training also involves a values orientation program which serves to improve the officers’ knowledge, skills and attitudes in order to achieve the ultimate goal of a better work performance and relationship with their subordinates.
