Upon the endorsement of the Department of Education, the Cagayan de Oro City Council has passed Ordinance No 12688-2013 renaming the KM 5 Elementary School located at Xavier Heights, Upper Balulang as the Fr William F Masterson SJ Elementary School.

Fr Masterson worked tirelessly for the sustainable development of Mindanao. He started the XU College of Agriculture in 1953 and the South East Asia Rural Social Development Institute (SEARSOLIN) in 1964 for the formation of competent and socially committed leaders who will work toward poverty alleviation and holistic human development.
