Aiming to help make Cagayan de Oro a more livable city while, at the same time, teaching students to be more aware of their responsibility in keeping our environment clean,  the NSTP Educators Association in Region 10 (NEAR 10) with the city government held a city-wide clean-up on Feb 22.

“We keep our responsibility to train, motivate and organize [the youth] in the furthering of our nation,” Dennise S. Gonzales, XU-NSTP Director and NEAR 10 President, said.

City Mayor Oscar Moreno also supported the activity, expressing his deep gratitude to those who organized and participated in the event.

“This is your call for a better tomorrow, a better government, a better teamwork,” said Moreno.

The activity involved NSTP students of Cagayan de Oro College/PHINMA Education network, Capitol University, Golden Heritage Polytechnic College, Lourdes College, Mindanao University of Science and Technology, Pilgrim Christian College, Southern de Oro Philippine College, STI Colleges of Mindanao, Vineyard International Polytechnic School and Xavier University.

From 8-11 am, the students were assigned in various streets in the city where they removed outdated/ torn posters/bills and streamers, and vandalism on fences and walls, and swept the streets.

Josephine L. Peras, Lourdes College NSTP Teacher commended the activity for helping make the city clean. “We prepared for the activity. I told my students beforehand about the materials that we needed for the clean-up.”

A student from MUST says that she is glad for the event since it enabled her to help the entire city even though she is still a first year college student.
