The McKeough Marine Center (MMC) will hold the unveiling and groundbreaking ceremony of the Xavier University Marine Station in Jasaan, Misamis Oriental on June 8 at 3 pm.

The Marine Station will be equipped with outdoor/indoor tanks of flowing sea- or freshwater; a wet and dry laboratory; a controlled room for experiments and microculture; a pump and aeration system; a fully equipped diving unit (including compressor); field boats and utility vehicles; and lodging.

It aims to support researches requiring land-and ocean-based set-ups and field/laboratory experiments for courses in the Biology Department.

The station can hold small-scale experiments for the research studies of students, both local and foreign, in their undergraduate and graduate theses (e.g., Biology 20, etc.). It is also intended to support the BS Biology/Marine Biology courses.
Capacity building of the local populace will be undertaken through participatory trainings in the station (lecture and fieldwork). It will be geared towards community-based integrated coastal zone management.
