The Philippine contingent, a mix of public and private primary and high school students trained by the Mathematics Trainers’ Guild–Philippines (MTG), stood out in a competitive field that included teams from China, Taiwan, Russia, Bulgaria, Canada, Turkey, Hong Kong, Macau, Vietnam, Thailand, Brazil, Singapore, Indonesia, Malaysia, Myanmar, Kyrgyzstan, Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, and Uganda. Among the bronze medalists was Jachin Boaz Borja of Xavier University Junior High School, the only representative from Cagayan de Oro in the entire Philippine delegation. His accomplishment is particularly significant, as the AIMO is recognized as one of the most challenging international mathematics competitions, designed to “explore math potential, broaden math horizons, improve scientific thinking, and foster cultural exchange and friendships.” Borja’s success reflects not only his exceptional problem-solving skills but also his dedication, discipline, and ability to thrive under intense global competition. His bronze medal adds to the Philippines’ growing record of achievement in international math contests and brings pride to both Xavier University and the city of Cagayan de Oro.
