Xavier University – Ateneo de Cagayan extended a helping hand to the victims of the fire in Barangay 17 on 12 October 2025.Through the launched donation drive under #XUTabangBrgy17, various in-kind donations were gathered from individuals and university units, spearheaded by the Social Involvement and Advocacy Program (SIAP) led by its Director, Mr Nestor M Banuag, Jr. Among those who responded was XU Junior High School, together with its students, parents, and partners, through the initiative of Social Development Coordinator Mr Anthony Ryan Mañus.

The collaborative efforts of different university clusters and organizations ensured that aid and compassion reached those most affected. Accompanied by various volunteers, students, faculty, and formators, they worked hand in hand to bring comfort and assistance to the families.

A solemn Mass was celebrated by Fr Frank Dennis B Savadera, SJ, XU Vice President for Mission and Ministry, offering prayers of strength and renewal for the families who lost their homes. The atmosphere, though heavy with memories of the fire, was lifted by the faith of the victims and volunteers.
Behind the movement stood the unwavering support of Fr Mars P Tan, SJ, Xavier University President, and Engr Dexter Lo, Vice President for Social Development, who never miss an opportunity to inspire the Xavier Atenean community to live out its mission of service rooted in faith and love for others.

This visit marked only the beginning of Xavier University’s continuing commitment to accompany the people of Barangay 17 on their road to recovery. Through small gestures and collective efforts, hope continues to take root amidst the ashes.
