On 7 November 2025, Xavier University Junior High School (XUJHS) representative, Ianne Felicci Aguanta, emerged as champion of the Oratorical Contest organized by the Brotherhood of Christian Businessmen and Professionals (BCBP) Cagayan de Oro East Chapter, held at Mallberry Suites Business Hotel, Cagayan de Oro City.

With the contest’s theme, “Be honest, even if others are not, even if others will not, even if others cannot,” Aguanta delivered her winning original oratorical piece on how acts of dishonesty, injustice, and corruption erode public trust, enabling those in power while leaving the lives of the vulnerable to suffer.

“Corruption is not just a political issue, but also a moral one. It is in the misused funds that never reach the poor. It’s in the fake promises made during elections. It’s in the silent acceptance of injustice because it benefits those in power,” Aguanta declared in the speech.

Aguanta urged the youth to combat dishonesty through responsible use of social media, practicing fact-checking, and participating in online activism. She encouraged the audience to show small acts of integrity in school and to challenge leaders across the nation to reject greed and inefficiency, choosing honesty and integrity over deceit. Her speech emphasized that choosing integrity is not always easy, for it requires courage and moral strength. This is a challenge, and a call for change for future leaders and advocates like her.

Aguanta concluded her piece with a striking call to reflection: “Those who do not understand the past are condemned to repeat it. But those who learn and live with integrity will change the future. Warriors of the future, which one will you choose?” she asked.

The BCBP Cagayan de Oro East Chapter commended all participants for using the contest as an avenue to practice public speaking and express awareness at a time in a society where deception often overshadows reality.

With her compelling oratorical piece and delivery, Aguanta was declared champion and received a P10,000 cash prize courtesy of the organizers. The second and third place winners received P5,000 and P3,000 respectively.

Her success in the oratorical contest was made possible through the dedicated guidance of her coach, Ms Ma Paula Fredricka M Neri, whose mentorship played a vital role in honing her skills. She also benefited greatly from the unwavering support of the English Department, headed by its Chairperson, Ms Dinafe T Rara, the entire XUJHS community, and her family whose encouragement and commitment further strengthened her preparation and confidence.
