In solidarity with the nationwide 18-Day Campaign to End Violence Against Women (VAW), Xavier University, through the Gender and Development (GAD) Office, carried out a series of awareness and advocacy activities across the campus from 25 November to 12 December 2025, reaffirming its commitment to gender equality, respect, and a violence-free community.

Through the Office of the Vice President for Higher Education, Human Resources Office, Computing and Information Services Office, advocacy and information materials, including resources on Republic Act 11313, also known as the Safe Spaces Act (Bawal Bastos Law), were uploaded on e-Learn and the Human Resources Information System (HRIS) to ensure continued access to information on gender-based violence, extending beyond physical spaces and into the digital classroom.

As part of the Orange Your Icon Campaign, orange ribbons were displayed at the Science Center Walkway and within the Church grounds, through the support of the University Chaplaincy, symbolizing hope and collective action to end violence against women and girls. Advocacy videos on violence against women, consent, and bystander intervention were also screened at the MAGIS Canteen, reaching more members of the university community.

Through the Office of Student Affairs, the campaign was further highlighted during Xavier University Festival Days, particularly through the Bike Caravan and XU Fun Day activities, where an advocacy talk, banners, and orange ribbons reinforced the call for a culture of safety, respect, and gender equality.

In partnership with the University Athletics Office, the GAD Office conducted self-defense classes to promote personal safety and empowerment among students and staff. In addition, Information, Education, and Communication (IEC) sessions were integrated into NSTP classes, engaging students in discussions on gender sensitivity, women’s rights, and community responsibility.

Through these initiatives, Xavier University strengthened its efforts toward a safe, inclusive, and gender-responsive campus, emphasizing that ending violence against women requires sustained education and collective action. Violence against women must not be remembered only during the 18-Day Campaign; it is an everyday fight that calls for continued vigilance, advocacy, and action from the entire university community.
