In 2024, Xavier University, through its XU Lands Office, launched a calamansi planting project on its property in Maramag, Bukidnon. This was made possible by the hard work of the workers, the support of the University's friends, and the Jesuits, who personally helped plant and care for the seedlings.
The first planting activity was conducted in January 2024, followed by additional plantings in August 2024, January 2025, and August 2025. The journey was not easy as young trees faced long dry months and the effects of El Niño. Still, through teamwork, patience, and regular care, the calamansi trees survived and continued to grow.
A total of 1,200 calamansi seedlings were planted, with approximately 98% currently healthy and growing. These trees show what can be achieved when people work together with one goal: to take care of the land and build something good for the future.
Now well established, the calamansi trees reflect the results of consistent care and shared responsibility. This project also serves as a reminder to the XU community that caring for the land is a collective effort—one that everyone can take pride in.
