Xavier University – Ateneo de Cagayan has opened a meaningful avenue to reach and support communities most affected by the ongoing crisis through XU BIYAHEnihan: Emergency Relief Assistance for Public Transport Drivers and Vulnerable Families. Spearheaded by the Social Involvement and Advocacy Program (SIAP) under the XU Social Development Cluster, the initiative has reached families and public transport drivers across different communities and sectors in Cagayan de Oro City. This was made possible through the support of Tanging Yaman Foundation, Inc, and other generous donors.

PUV drivers lined up to receive their relief assistance during the XU BIYAHEnihan distribution on 23 April 2026 at the Xavier University Gym entrance.
The distribution efforts were carried out in multiple batches from 23 to 25 April, covering several communities, including Barangay Carmen, Barangay Bulua, Barangay 22, and Barangay 40. Assistance was extended to public transport drivers such as motorela, jeepney, habal-habal, and taxi drivers, as well as to senior citizens, solo parents, women, and other vulnerable groups. The beneficiaries were identified in coordination with the Philippine Island Kids International Foundation, Inc (PIKIFI), various operators and drivers’ associations, and local barangay councils.

XU volunteers went to partner communities to distribute relief assistance to vulnerable groups and families during the oil crisis.
More than providing food assistance, XU BIYAHEnihan serves as a way for the university to connect with and stand in solidarity with those who continue to serve the public despite daily challenges, especially amid rising fuel costs. It is a reminder that they are not alone and that a community is ready to support them. The project is made possible through the significant support of donors, along with the dedication of student volunteers, formators, and university employees who worked together to bring the initiative to life.

XU students, faculty, formators, and staff volunteered to participate in the relief pack distribution scheduled from 23 to 25 April 2026.
At its core, the effort carries a simple message of hope: Padayon lang bisan sa mga pagsulay karon, kay naay komunidad nga andam moalalay ug mosuporta. Daghang salamat sa tanang nagtabang ug nagpaluyo. Para sa Diyos ug Nasud.
