Xavier University officially launched its 2025-2026 Research Month on 13 April 2026, with a flagship opening program titled “Filipinnovation.” The month-long celebration, themed “Research and Innovation for the Common Good: Nurturing Legacies and Serving Communities,” serves as a strategic milestone as the University approaches its Centennial Year.

The program opened with a call to action from the Dean for Research Dr Heide Rabanes, who framed the celebration as a "whole-of-nation" movement. She challenged the community to view research not as a solitary act, but as a vital contribution to the Filipino legacy, specifically through the Filipinnovation Ecosystem—a synergy between the academe, government, and the private sector facilitated by the Xavier University Knowledge and Technology Transfer Office (XU-KTTO).
University President Fr Mars P Tan, SJ further bolstered this vision, lauding the Research Cluster for fostering a vibrant culture of inquiry. He reaffirmed the University’s commitment to research anchored in the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (UN SDGs), ensuring that faculty and student innovations deliver measurable societal impact.

Keynote speaker Engr Elpidio Paras, President of UC-1 Corporation, highlighted Filipinnovation as a tool for nation-building. A renowned champion of innovation in Cagayan de Oro and beyond, Engr Paras emphasized that long-term impact relies on "robust industry-academic partnerships" that address real-world challenges.

Adding a regional perspective, Mr Jon Michael Semilla of DOST-X discussed Northern Mindanao’s R&D landscape, highlighting the regional initiatives and sustained investments necessary to support local innovators, reinforcing the importance of a collaborative research ecosystem.
The opening activities set the tone for a Research Month dedicated to strengthening research relevance, innovation, and service to society, and concluded with the ribbon-cutting ceremony of the Research Poster Exhibit, where visual displays translated complex research into creative interpretations of community service. The "Filipinnovation" launch successfully set a high standard for the month, empowering the University community to turn Filipino-led research into global solutions.
