Xavier University through the Governance and Leadership Institute (GLI), together with its training partners, the Zuellig Family Foundation and Department of Health (DOH)-Regional Office 10, conducted another roll-out of the first module of the Municipal Leadership and Governance Program (MLGP) on June 25-27, 2014 at De Luxe Hotel, Cagayan de Oro City.

Local chief executives, municipal health officers, and DOH representatives from different municipalities in Region 10, which include, Aloran, Calamba, Concepcion from the province of Misamis Occidental, Guinsiliban, and Mambajao from Camiguin province, completed the fourth batch of participants for the event.

The training aimed to promote awareness on health inequities in the community; and how the participants, as powerful individuals, can address this by empowering their respective communities through improved local health systems. It also stressed their roles as effective health advocates through strengthened governance and leadership.

XU’s training team was led by Dr. Dixon Q. Yasay, the director of XU-GLI and the resource person of the event. Engr. Gail De la Rita, assistant to the VP-Research and Social Outreach (RSO), Mr. Jason Manaois of Psychology Department, and Mr. Wilson Hormeguera, the over-all training officer, were also part of the team. These faculty and experts were trained to pass the standards of Zuellig Family Foundation.

Through MLGP, XU- GLI is still on track to its mission to help build capacity of public sectors. It continues to develop and enable change makers in the arena of health governance and leadership.
