In the hope of discussing the issues and concerns of farmers regarding the Comprehensive Agrarian Reform Program (CARP), a forum was held at XU's AVR 8 on June 25.

Headed by the Research and Social Outreach (RSO) of the university, through the Kristohanong Katilingban sa Pagpakabana-Social Involvement Office (KKP-SIO) together with the Central Student Government (CSG), the forum, entitled “Hisgut-hisgut Uban sa Mga Mag-uuma” presented the constitutional and legal bases of CARP.

Ms. Teresita Depeῆoso, representing the Department of Agrarian Reform (DAR) Region 10, Atty. Jarley Turgillo of XU-CLA, religious sectors of Cagayan de Oro, different organizations of farmers, students and media were among those present in the event for the discussion.

CARP or RA 6657 is an act instituting the “redistribution of public and private agricultural lands to farmers and farmworkers who are landless, irrespective of tenurial arrangement”. It already ended last June 30 yet many of the lands promised to the farmers were still not distributed.
