Xavier University – Governance and Leadership Institute (XU-GLI) participated in a symposium among Health Leadership and Governance Program (HLGP) coordinators and academic partners on June 18-19 at Bayleaf Hotel, Intramuros, Manila.

HLGP is anchored on Zuellig Family Foundation’s (ZFF) health change model which is premised on local health leadership, consisting of the mayor, the municipal health officer and community leaders, as key to changing systems and establishing inclusive programs that lead to better health outcomes for the poor.

The symposium involved a focused group discussion on issues and concerns in program implementation, a world café on challenges, consequences, and response; and initial planning for program institutionalization.

The symposium output will be presented for discussion and dialogue to the Program Academic Partners and other stakeholders to improve program implementation.  For ZFF the sustainability of the program relies on its integration in the university curriculum.

Xavier University, through Governance and Leadership Institute and Jose P Rizal School of Medicine, is one of the academic partners of the Department of Health and ZFF in the implementation of HLGP, which is being carried out in the 609 municipalities and cities identified as priority by the National Anti-Poverty Commission.

Xavier University continues to engage in governance and health as these are part of the thematic areas of the Research and Social Outreach Cluster.
