Xavier University (XU) through the Governance and Leadership Institute (GLI) conducted a training on leadership and governance for health on August 12-15, 2014 at Pearlmont Inn, Cagayan de Oro City.

The training is the second part of the two training modules of the Municipal Leadership and Governance Program (MLGP), which aims to develop local health leaders into efficient and effective health advocates. MLGP is a component of the Health Leadership and Governance Program (HLGP) of the Department of Health (DOH) and the Zuellig Family Foundation (ZFF).

As a certified academic partner of ZFF, the university was tapped to conduct the training consultancy for the Department of Health – Center for Health Development X.

Participants of the training included select local chief executives and municipal health officers from municipalities identified by the DOH – CHD Region X. These are: Kitaotao, Lantapan, Malitbog, and Sumilao in Bukidnon, Sagay in Camiguin, Kapatagan Kauswagan, Kolambugan, Linamon, Maigo, PantaoRagat, Tangcal, and Tubod in Lanao del Norte, and Jimenez, Plaridel, and Tudela in Misamis Occidental.

Dr. Aristides C Tan, DOH-X Regional Director, graced the event and recognized the positive health outcomes of the LGUs enrolled under MLGP. He also promised them the continued support of DOH-X in sustaining these positive outcomes.

Xavier University, through Governance and Leadership Institute, continues to engage in Health and Governance as part of the thematic agenda under its Research and Social Outreach (RSO) Cluster.
