The Xavier University Press (XU Press) announces its call for entries to the second year of the university-wide writing competition.

Selected entries will be published in Abot II, the second anthology of creative works from the university community.

This year, entries must be on Peace. Pieces that can cleanly integrate other RSO thematic agenda (Food Sustainability, Good Governance, Health and Environment) together with the main theme will be given added points.

The competition has four categories, namely:

Category A: Primary School students

Category B: Secondary School Students

Category C: College Students

Category D: Post-graduate students, Faculty & Staff

Entries can be in English, Filipino, or Binisaya. For this year, entries will not be segregated according to language. However, mastery in the language chosen is necessary as it will be part of the criteria for judging which is as follows:

50 % creativity

30 % mastery of the language

20 % relevance to the RSO thematic goals

The deadline for submission is December 15, 2014.

For each category, first, second and third place winners will be selected. The prizes are P5,000, P3,000 and P2,000 respectively. Five finalists would also be chosen and will each be given P500. Of these category winners, a grand prize winner will be selected and will receive P10,000. Mentors of high school students will also be given recognition awards.

Guidelines for entries and the criteria for judging can be found at the XU Press webpage and on posters displayed around the campus. Inquiries can also be sent to This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it..
