In collaboration with the First Community Cooperative - Community Outreach Foundation (FICCO-COF), Xavier University – Governance and Leadership Institute (XU-GLI) facilitated the Cooperative Governance and Management Training Workshop on September 20-21 at the FICCO Hall, Tiano St, Cagayan de Oro City.

Using the Balanced Scorecard framework, the training had three parts: the visioning workshop, environmental scanning workshop and strategy mapping workshop.

The visioning exercise included the reiteration of their purpose of existence and the values the cooperatives uphold. In addition, the first activity made the cooperatives conscious of the direction they are tracking in and, as an element of good governance, the importance of communicating the vision and the strategy to their members.

The environmental scanning workshop allowed the cooperatives to view a wider perspective of their current positions in the light of achieving their desired vision.

Moreover, the output of the last workshop was a one-page strategy map that would tell the story on how they are to achieve what they have envisioned.

The event was participated in by the board members, managers, and leaders from different cooperatives: 1st Valley Credit Cooperative, Boholano Fraternal Credit Cooperative (BFCC), Cagayan de Oro Transportation Cooperative (CAGATRANSCO), City Economic Cooperative (CECOOP), Dalan Alang sa Mabungahong Gitinguha Ugma – Multi-Purpose Cooperative (DAMGU-MPC), Department of Science and Technology – Personnel Multi-Purpose Cooperative (DOST-10 PMPC), First Bukidnon Electric Cooperative (FIBECO) Employees Primary Multi-Purpose Cooperative (FEPMPC), FICCO-Carmen, FICCO Don Carlos, Bukidnon, FICCO Balulang, FICCO Tiano, FICCO Main, FICCO Mandaue, Cebu City,  Iligan Cement Multi-Purpose Cooperative (ICMPC), Gagmay’ng Kristohanong Pundok Multi-Purpose Cooperative (GKPMPC), Memorial Services Cooperative Federation (MSCF), Mindanao Savings Cooperative (MINSAVE) and Xavier University Community Multi-Purpose Cooperative (XUCMPC).

The progress of a cooperative helps in the livelihood of its members],” remarked Isagani B Daba, FICCO Foundation vice-chairman, who gave the closing message of the training.

Daba also expressed her gratitude to Dr Dixon Yasay and GLI for facilitating the training-workshop.
