Three faculty members from the Philosophy department of Xavier University namely Dr Jane Gallamaso, Milagros Catherine Rivera and Tyron Keith Sabal attended the 9th International Conference on Catholic Social Thought and Business Ethics at the De La Salle University (DLSU) and Ateneo de Manila University (ADMU) on February 26-28.

The theme of the conference centered on “Prosperity, Poverty, and the Purpose of Business Rediscovering Integral Human Development in the Catholic Social Tradition.” All paper presentations were mostly focused on the Catholic Social Teaching (CST) and its relation to business ethics, on corporate responsibility in answer to the problem of poverty, and the state of CST in some business schools.

More than 200 participants drew together at the conference, including the delegates from more than 20 other countries.

Plenary speakers included Stefano Zamagni from the University of Bologna in Italy and successful Filipino businessman Ramon del Rosario Jr.

Manila Archbishop Cardinal Luis Antonio Tagle presided the mass on the first day of the conference where he delivered an inspiring homily to the participants.

Dr Gallamaso of XU-Philo department was requested to lead a concurrent session for speakers and respondents from the University of Notre Dame, Creighton University and Belarus University.

The last day of the seminar was spent to a visit to the Gawad Kalinga Farm in Bulacan. The participants listened to the talk of GK founder Tony Meloto and various entrepreneurs.

The international conference was jointly organized by the Ethics Center of ADMU headed by Dr Oscar Bulaong Jr, the College of St Benilde led by Professor Benito Teehankee, and DLSU.
