Xavier University – Governance and Leadership Institute (XU-GLI) served as one of the sponsors of the Youth Hours 2015 of the Alumni of the Outstanding Students in the Philippines (AOSP) in Region 10 on February 14 at Mindanao University of Science and Technology (MUST).

This year’s Youth Hours centered on “Leadership and Excellence” with emphasis on the challenges of becoming an outstanding youth leader and how to deliver excellent leadership performance.

XU-GLI director Dr Dixon Yasay and Cagayan de Oro Archbishop Antonio Ledesma SJ DD were the main speakers of the event. Both Dr Yasay and Arcbp Ledesma were former awardees of the Ten Outstanding Students of the Philippines (TOSP).

Dr Yasay was one of the TOSP recipients in 1991 while Arcbp Ledesma was awarded in the late 1960s.

More than a hundred student leaders from various universities and colleges across the region participated in the Youth Hours 2015.

During the open forum, a number of student leaders raised questions especially on how to balance academic excellence and outstanding student leadership.

Dr Yasay pointed out the fundamental values of making a choice by setting a goal, and once the goal becomes clear, there are things needed to be done and to be eliminated.

Youth Hours 2015 was also supported by RFM Corporation and Commission on Higher Education (CHED) Region 10.
