The Zuellig Family Foundation (ZFF) presented a plaque of recognition to Xavier University – Governance and Leadership Institute (XU-GLI) at the National Academic Partners Colloquium on April 24, held at the Asian Institute of Management (AIM) in Makati City.

The plaque was given to XU-GLI for being ZFF’s valuable partner in the national implementation of the Health Leadership and Governance Program (HLGP), a national program of Department of Health (DOH) and ZFF that is aimed at improving health outcomes through empowering leadership and governance, enhanced local health systems, active community participation and service delivery at the local level.

HLGP was also geared toward creating an immediate impact on achieving related Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) such as the reduction of infant mortality rate (IMR) and improving maternal health in 609 identified priority municipalities nationwide that need to improve in their local health systems by the end of 2015.

The colloquium, participated in by 13 academic institutions nationwide, was convened in order to deepen understanding, appreciation, and application of Bridging Leadership Framework from the stories of different sectors—peace and security, government, non-government organizations, and health.

Another goal of the program is to plan for the institutionalization in expanding the role of the academic partners in improving regional health outcomes; and to recognize academic partners’ efforts in the HGLP implementation.

XU-GLI, in partnership with ZFF and DOH Region 10, has been implementing HLGP with 52 participating local government units in Northern Mindanao.  This initiative forms part of XU’s greater societal engagement themes under the Research and Social Outreach (RSO) cluster.
