The Development Communication department of Xavier University conducted a summer journalism writing workshop for incoming DevCom sophomores and juniors from April 13 to 24.

The two-week writeshop covered creative and news writing, spearheaded by DevCom instructor Rechelle Ann Tolinero-Barraquias together with other guest lecturers.

Marvin Pamisa, an incoming 2nd year DevCom student said that the reason behind his participation in the summer writeshop is to refresh the writing principles he has somehow taken for granted.

“Not only does the workshop remind and reiterate the principles and basics of writings, but it also reinforces me with new techniques in view of correlating with the target readers,” he said.

The 23 participants of the workshop submitted their daily output to their respective coaches online. The latter would then comment and give pieces of advice to the participants on how to improve their writing.

“Moreover, the summer writeshop made clear to me my flaws and imperfections that I need to dwell on as an amateur writer,” Pamisa mused.

A mini commencement exercise transpired on April 24 to mark the culmination of the summer journalism workshop.
