The Local Government Academy (LGA) of the Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG) and Local Government Support Program – Local Economic Development (LGSP-LED) organized a training course on entrepreneurial leadership and LED champions creation held on March 23-25 at the Rembrant Hotel, Quezon City.

Xavier University – Governance and Leadership Institute (XU-GLI) director Dr Dixon Yasay delivered a half-day lecture on entrepreneurial leadership. He made use of different models and LED champions who were able to significantly reduce poverty incidence in their respective localities by improving business permit and licensing system, and promoting competitiveness.

More than 10 local government units with their respective mayors joined the training workshop which was aimed at enhancing LGU capacities in carrying out its enabling role for LED and in pursuing economic initiatives that attract investments, create jobs and support pro-poor growth.

Dr Yasay also presented on addressing poverty through the optimal use of LGU powers and strategic management of resources.

When asked about sustainability of LED initiatives, the XU-GLI director responded by elaborating on the challenges of shared leadership and putting right people in the organization.
