The Climate Change Commission (CCC), through its Resilience and Preparedness for Inclusive Development Program (RAPID), organized an experts’ group meeting on Community-Based Disaster Risk Reduction and Management (CBDRRM) on March 24 at Hotel Lorenza in Tacloban City.

Leading practitioners and experts from the civil society, non-government organizations (NGOs), the public sector, academe and other service providers discussed ideas and made proposals on how to ensure the success of CCC’s RAPID.

XU-GLI director Dr Dixon Yasay was invited to talk about the “Governance of Disaster,” emphasizing on the structure and multi-functionality of local government units that would have serious implications on ensuring disaster preparedness in the community.

Dr Yasay said that LGUs can better prepare for disasters when they will optimize the use of powers entrusted to them by the law, and learn from best practices and success stories of various LGUs in the country.

The meeting is part of the groundwork that CCC is undertaking for the implementation of the CBDRRM component of RAPID, which is a capacity development program in support of the long-term recovery of LGUs and communities in Yolanda-affected areas.
