Xavier University - Governance and Leadership Institute (XU-GLI), in partnership with the Zuellig Family Foundation (ZFF) and the Department of Health (DOH), conducted a 4-day training for the third batch of local chief executives and municipal health officers on the second module of the Municipal Leadership and Governance Program (MLGP) on February 24-27 at Pearlmont Hotel, Cagayan de Oro City.

With the theme, “Moving from Good to Better - Deepening Relationship to Sustain Gains in Health Outcomes,” the event was aimed at strengthening the management skills of local leaders toward a sustainable local healthcare system and services.

Dr Hilly Ann Roa-Quiaoit, vice-president for XU - Research and Social Outreach and DOH-X regional director Dr Aristides Tan welcomed the participants coming from Cabanglasan and Kalilangan of the Bukidnon; Guinsiliban of Camiguin; Kapatagan, Lala, Sultan Naga Dimaporo, and Maigo of Lanao del Norte; Calamba, Concepcion, and Sapang Dalaga of Misamis Occidental.

The training focused on the evaluation of the significant improvements and changes that have been made in their LGU’s health systems after their 6-month practicum from the first module. Through their road maps and health indicators, they were able to narrate their accomplishments and the issues to be resolved.

The training emphasized the crucial role of the leaders in the community especially on healthcare matters, which would entail a step-by-step process. Thus, the presentations highlighted the importance of co-ownership in the Bridging Leadership Framework (CBLF) where the collaborative efforts among the constituents and other agencies can make significant differences in the system.

XU-GLI continues to engage in the mission of building the capacities of the leaders of the local public sector as part of the governance theme under the auspices of the RSO cluster.
